猴子听说西瓜很好吃,它就从好朋友兔子那里要来西瓜种子种上。自从种上西瓜猴子就没有睡安稳过,它除了白天无数次地查看,晚上只要醒着它就要到西瓜地转一遭。第三天它正在着急地在西瓜地转悠,兔子刚好从此经过,猴子一下窜到兔子面前抓住兔子问:“兔子,西瓜为什么还没有发芽。”兔子闻言笑得面地打滚。好不容易兔子忍住笑说:“你才种上三天,又没有浇水,西瓜要发芽除非太阳从西边出来。浇完水还要……”猴子没听完兔子的话就一窜一跳地跑开找桶浇水去了,兔子看看远去的猴子摇摇头走开了。
西瓜好不容易发芽了,猴子兴奋无比,天不亮它就砸兔子的门,不等兔子开门它就把好消息告诉了兔子,等兔子急忙去开门准备和猴子一起庆贺,可猴子已无影无踪了,兔子苦笑一下,只好准备一些礼物到西瓜地一起与猴子庆贺。
兔子来到西瓜地见猴子围着刚破土而出的西瓜苗抓耳挠腮地转悠,兔子放下水果来到猴子跟前问:“小猴子,在干什么?”猴子说:“西瓜半夜就发芽了,你看,现在日头都老高老高的啦,怎么不见它开发结果,我看到晚上我都没有希望吃上西瓜。”兔子看着猴子说:“哪有像你想的那样快的,没有几个月你甭想吃上可口的西瓜。”猴子一听马上跳起来,它大叫:“哪有这么慢性的西瓜,黄牛伯伯的西瓜地里什么时候去都有西瓜吃,是不是你的种子有问题,要知道这样,还不如种小猪的甜瓜呢,我去年见小猪种上没几天就有甜瓜吃啦。”
兔子刚要分辨两句,猴子已经把西瓜苗拔起扔掉了,兔子一看气呼呼地回家了。小猪听说了这件事就跑来对小猴说:“我还有甜瓜种子,小猴兄弟你试着种点,甜瓜比西瓜长得快一些。”
小猴一听喜出望外,一下跳到小猪面前说:“好啊,好啊,快拿给我,我要马上种上。”小猪慢腾腾地从背包里拿出一个小包,小猴不等小猪递过来就一把抢过来跑到以前的西瓜地里种去了。
小猴吸去种西瓜失败的教训,不在那么急了,它按部就班地施肥浇水,然后耐心地等待。终于没几天甜瓜种子在小猴子焦急地等待中发芽了,小猴赶忙跑到兔子家向兔子请教瓜苗的管理问题,又跑到小猪家打听什么时候可以结甜瓜,小甜瓜长到什么程度算成熟,又告诉乌鸦让它通知大家过几天到自己家吃甜瓜。大家听后都劝小猴不要太急,那不是一蹴而就的事情。小猴可等不下去,因为它已经把水果刀水果盘准备好了。
